Resume questions, answered
The things job seekers ask us most - about ATS screening, formatting, and what actually gets you interviews.
Is JustResume really free?+
Yes. Building, scoring and exporting a resume is free with no paywall and no credit card. You can use the ATS checker and the editor without even making an account - sign in only when you want AI help, cloud saving, or the job tracker.
What is an ATS, and why does it matter?+
An Applicant Tracking System is software employers use to collect, parse and rank applications before a human reads them. If the parser cannot read your file cleanly, or your resume misses the terms the job asks for, you can be filtered out no matter how strong your experience is.
What resume format is safest for ATS?+
A single-column layout with real text, standard section headings (Experience, Education, Skills), normal bullet points and a common font. Avoid text inside images, tables, headers/footers and multi-column designs - those are what break parsers. Every JustResume template follows these rules.
How long should my resume be?+
One page if you have under about ten years of experience, two pages beyond that. What matters more than page count is density: cut duties and keep achievements. JustResume flags a resume that is too thin to compete or so long it loses focus.
Should I tailor my resume for every job?+
Yes - it is the single highest-return thing you can do. Roles use different words for the same skill, and both the ATS and the recruiter look for the words in their posting. Paste a job description into JustResume and it shows exactly which terms you are missing.
Does a PDF or a Word file work better?+
PDF is safest for modern systems and guarantees your layout survives, which is why JustResume exports a clean, text-based PDF. If an application explicitly asks for .doc/.docx, use our DOCX export instead - never send a scanned or image-based file.
